Successful PhD defense

Carolina Martínez Grijalva successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled "Subcellular compartmentalization of signal elements and their re-distribution in resting and activated B cells" on December 13, 2023. Congratulations from the entire team ! A photo from the after-defense party can be found here.

Mission

The Institute for Cellular and Molecular Immunology of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) is dedicated to basic and applied research as well as academic teaching. Current scientific interests include the analysis of signaling pathways involved in B cell activation, the regulation of humoral immunity, and the function of T cells and macrophages in chronic inflammation. We employ cell culture, genetic engineering, imaging techniques, preclinical animal models, and patient specimens to decipher mechanisms of immunodeficiency, allergy, autoimmunity, and cancer. Close interactions with other research groups in Göttingen as well as national and international collaborations help to accomplish our goals. We participate in different teaching programs and thereby help to disseminate immunological knowledge to students of human medicine, molecular medicine, biology, molecular biology, and technical laboratory assistance. Furthermore, professors of the institute serve the Medical Faculty as Dean of Research, Vice Dean of Study, Spokesman of the Molecular Medicine Study Program, and Corona Task Force Manager. Patient counseling and care is not provided by the institute. Should you have questions concerning therapies and immunological diagnoses, please refer to the respective clinics of the UMG.
